It was kind of a pain to install this. See the FRONT Torx bit hole on the plastic distributor for my ol' 4.3 L vortec broke. I used a long screw instead and it held the cap just fine. I decided to try this part because a mechanic friend of mine told me about it. I installed this on a 1998 Chevy C1500. So far it is fine, I just dont want to be in there on that thing for awhile. It's going on 8 months or so.

Great product if you don’t have the time or money to change out a damaged distributor. My distributor stripped out on the front screw holder, and the distributor cap kept coming loose causing my 1997 Chevy Tahoe to misfire. I do recommend buying a new distributor cap. When tighting down the front screw, when installing the repair plate, the plastic broke on the front hole of the old distributor cap, and the front screw kept slipping off, since it was not being supported in place. I guess the heat of the motor made the plastic brittle. Bought a new cap and it worked great. It’s a little tough to hold the plate, and screw in the screws at the same time. Now, my engine is running very smooth!! It would be nice if the plate clipped on to the distributor and held in place.

GM dsigned a CHEAP distributor housing that is highly effected by heat. the tighter your engine compartment, the worse it is!
The shape is a little odd looking but also factors in total failure (broken off) of the Threaded "plastic" mounting ears. The Cap is self aligning but be careful to tighten the screws almost to tight and MAKE SURE the cap is sitting right before tightening down.
PS. even the replacement caps come with instuctions for Heat Issue corrections!

Worked as advertised. Previously, tab on distributor was broken, cap held on by one screw, was causing engine to stall under load. I cleaned the part and the underside of distributor followed by jb weld. Runs strong now under load. Havent had to change distributor yet so hoping will stick.

works great for repairing damaged [composite] distributor housing. However, piece is stamped steel and you use screws to fasten. you could strip out the holes if careless.

If the shaft bearing on your distributor is good, no end play, buy this to "repair" your distributor, GM should have had an aluminum housing for the Vortec 5.7 and 4.3 distributors.

Quick and easy fix for a very very crappy design from GM, whoever designed those tiny weak tabs on the distributor itself needs to buy everyone one of these.

A great product to remedy the miserably weak, tapped, plastic tabs that the gm distributors have for the cap screws. One of which sheared clean off on an all new distrubutor while installing the cap.
